At what stage of your life did you decide to become an entrepreneur?

I was 24 years old a new mother and going through a separation from my spouse at the time. Entrepreneurship was my saving grace.

How did you develop your business idea, and what inspired you to proceed with your business idea?

It took me over a year to develop my idea properly, into something that was viable. I was income support at the time and decided that I wanted better for myself, so I went full force into proceeding with the idea.

What steps do you take to market your business and to make people aware of your brand?

I use social media heavily and of course our brands website. I have also doing some print media and tried social media advertising .

What is your personal secret to developing healthy business habits that support you to stay on track?

I pray. That is my secret.

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced on your journey so far and what steps did you take to overcome it?

I would still say when I lost the companies first website, following a dispute with our web developer, we lost our site and the money I had invested towards building it , not only that I had to change a lot of our branding, images, labels everything. Funnily that was probably the best thing to happened to us, it forced me to look at my business model, truly develop my value proposition and who exactly my target audience is . I focused on my business offering and got super clear on what The Soap Connoisseur was about.

Where do you see your business in the next five to ten years from now?

Oh The Dream! We see ourselves being a leader in the Organic skincare market, developing a strong manufacturing arm of the business and expanding into the African /middle eastern markets.

What’s the best business advice you have received and how did it positively impact you and your business?

You are the one to make it Happen and the money is already in your business. One of the best advice I received, why I was looking outside, and everywhere else to fix my business. I thought I needed more money and all the other shining things we entrepreneurs get caught up in. But this advice caused me to focus and look inside both myself and the business.

One of the most exciting thing I have done in my business was….

Travel to Ghana, to exhibit at an international trade show.

When I feel discouraged I tend to….

Pray.

If I could start all over again I would….

Make sure, I developed my business model and products, before spending any money. no logo’s no branding, before sorting out the foundations.

My favourite business app/tool is….
